Thermals with the longest battery life
Cold is the enemy of every lithium cell, and a thermal that dies at 2 a.m. in January is the one you will remember. These are the units whose makers publish eight hours or more of run time. The figure is the manufacturer's, usually at room temperature with Wi-Fi off — expect less in the cold, and weight the removable-pack units accordingly because a spare in your pocket doubles the number.
